Dutch Municipality Statistics

Choose a Dutch municipality to see its key figures: population, age, households, origin and how urban it is, with every district in it.

Choose a Dutch municipality to see its key figures, with every district in it.

Please note: The figures come from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and describe the whole Dutch neighborhood or postcode, not a single address. They are rounded, and CBS keeps small numbers confidential.

How it works

Moving to the Netherlands, or comparing Dutch towns? Choose a municipality and see how many people live there, how old they are, what the households look like and how urban it is. Below the figures you find every district of the municipality, each with a link to its own figures.

The figures per municipality come from the neighborhood map of Statistics Netherlands (CBS), with the municipalities of that year.

CBS does not publish small numbers, to protect residents' privacy. Those figures show as not disclosed.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Dutch municipality?

A municipality (gemeente) is the local government in the Netherlands: one city, such as Amsterdam, or a group of towns and villages.

What is the difference between a neighborhood, a district and a municipality?

In the Netherlands, each municipality is divided into districts (wijken) and each district into neighborhoods (buurten). CBS and the municipality set these areas together.

Why is a municipality missing?

The list follows the municipalities of the year of the figures. A municipality formed by a later merger appears once CBS publishes the new figures. Until then, look up the former municipalities.

How up to date are the figures?

The figures are for 2025. CBS adds to them during the year, for example with income and energy use. We add new figures as soon as they are published.
