Enter an amount and a year from 1900 to see what it is worth now, measured with the Dutch price index of Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

Please note: The calculation uses the consumer price index (CPI) of Statistics Netherlands (CBS): how the prices of what Dutch households buy changed on average. For a single product it can be different. Before 1996 the series is an approximation that CBS linked from older series.

How it works

What are 100 Dutch guilders from 1985 worth today? Or a salary from 1970? Enter an amount and a year to see roughly what you would need for it now, measured with the price index of Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

We use the consumer price index (CPI) of Statistics Netherlands (CBS), which measures how the prices of what Dutch households buy change on average. CBS has a continuous yearly series from 1900; for now we use the newest month. The amount at the time times the index now, divided by the index then, is the amount in money of today.

Guilders are first converted to euros at the fixed rate of 1999: 2.20371 guilders to 1 euro. So you can also compare an amount from before 2002 with today.

Frequently asked questions

Why not simply divide by 2.20371?

That gives the amount in euros of that time. Prices have gone up since the euro arrived, and before that too. That is why 100 guilders from 1985 are worth more than 45 euros today.

Is this right for every product?

No, it is the average of everything Dutch households buy. Housing, energy or electronics may have become more expensive much faster or slower.
