Dutch Neighborhood Statistics
Enter a Dutch postcode to see the key figures of that neighborhood in the Netherlands: population, age, households and how urban it is, next to the figures for the whole municipality.
Enter a Dutch postcode to see the figures for its neighborhood, next to those of the municipality.
Please note: The figures come from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and describe the whole Dutch neighborhood or postcode, not a single address. They are rounded, and CBS keeps small numbers confidential.
How it works
Moving to the Netherlands, or curious about a Dutch address? Enter the postcode and see how many people live in that neighborhood, how old they are, what the households look like and how urban it is. Each figure sits next to the figure for the whole municipality, so you can see what makes the neighborhood stand out.
The figures per neighborhood come from the neighborhood map of Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The housing figures come from the CBS statistics per postcode and describe that postcode only.
With a house number, we find the neighborhood through the CBS address file. Without one, we take the neighborhood where most addresses of the postcode are.
CBS does not publish small numbers, to protect residents' privacy. Those figures show as not disclosed. Counts per postcode are rounded to multiples of five.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Dutch postcode?
A Dutch postcode has four digits and two letters, such as 1012 JS in Amsterdam. It usually covers one side of a street or a small group of buildings.
What is the difference between a neighborhood, a district and a municipality?
In the Netherlands, each municipality is divided into districts (wijken) and each district into neighborhoods (buurten). CBS and the municipality set these areas together. A neighborhood usually has a few hundred to a few thousand residents.
How up to date are the figures?
The figures are for 2025. CBS adds to them during the year, for example with income and energy use. We add new figures as soon as they are published.
Do you store the postcode I enter?
No. We only use the postcode and house number to look up the neighborhood. We don't store them, and they don't appear in our statistics.
