Dutch Full Tank Then and Now
What did a full tank cost in the Netherlands on a date since 2006, and how many litres did a fixed amount buy? Next to now, also in today's money.
Pick a date from 1 January 2006 to see what a full tank cost in the Netherlands then, and how many litres a fixed amount bought. Next to now.
Please note: The prices are national averages from Statistics Netherlands (CBS): pump prices per day in the Netherlands, including excise duty and VAT. What you paid yourself depends on the station and the moment.
How it works
What did a full tank cost in the Netherlands back then, and how many litres did 50 euros buy? Pick a date and a fuel, and enter the tank size and an amount. You see the tank then and now, and the litres for that amount then and now.
The prices are the average pump prices per day in the Netherlands from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), based on data from Travelcard BV, including excise duty and VAT. If there is no price for the day you pick, we take the last day before it. Now is the latest day with a price.
For today's money we use the consumer price index of CBS: the amount of then times the index of the latest month, divided by the index of the month of then. The difference after inflation shows whether fuel rose faster or slower than prices in general.
Frequently asked questions
How big is a typical tank?
Around 35 to 45 litres for a small car and 50 to 60 litres for a mid-size car. The owner's manual gives the exact size.
Why only from 2006?
CBS publishes average pump prices per day from 1 January 2006. Before that there are only advisory prices of the oil companies, which are a different price that we don't mix in here.
Do you store what I enter?
No. We only use what you enter for this calculation and don't store it.
