Please note: The prices are national averages from Statistics Netherlands (CBS): pump prices per day in the Netherlands, including excise duty and VAT. What you paid yourself depends on the station and the moment.
How it works
What has fuel cost in the Netherlands over the past years? Enter how far you drive and what the car uses. For each year you see what the same kilometers cost at the average Dutch pump price of that year, and what that is in today's money.
The prices are the average pump prices per day in the Netherlands from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), based on data from Travelcard BV, from 2006. For each year we take the average of all days; for the current year up to the last day CBS has published.
The cost per year is the kilometers times the fuel use times that average price. For today's money we use the consumer price index of CBS: the cost of that year times the index of the latest month, divided by the average index of that year.
Every year uses the same kilometers and fuel use. To look at one year, make the first and last year the same.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this differ from what I actually paid?
We use the national average of almost all Dutch filling stations. Highway stations are often more expensive, unmanned stations cheaper, and fuel use varies by trip.
What does today's money mean?
A euro in 2010 bought more than a euro today. We convert the costs of then with inflation, so the years can be compared fairly.
Do you store what I enter?
No. We only use your input for this calculation and don't store it.
