Dutch License Plate Lookup

Enter a Dutch license plate to see what the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority, records about the vehicle: make and model, year, weight and dimensions, fuel use, the inspection (APK) expiration date and open recalls. Then calculate gas, charging or depreciation costs with one click.

We don't store the license plate. We only use it for this lookup.

Enter a Dutch license plate to see what the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority, records about the vehicle: make, weight, fuel use, inspection (APK) and recalls.

Please note: The details come from the public vehicle register of the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority, and describe the vehicle, not its owner. Inspection, export and recalls are at most a day old, everything else at most a week. Recall descriptions are in Dutch, as the RDW publishes them.

How it works

What does the Dutch vehicle register say about a car, motorcycle or trailer? Enter a Dutch license plate to see the make and model, when the vehicle was first on the road, its weight and towing capacity, fuel use and emissions, when its inspection (APK) expires and whether a recall is still open. Useful when you buy a vehicle that was registered in the Netherlands.

The details come from the public vehicle register of the RDW (RDW Open Data). We refresh our copy of that register completely every week. The inspection date, the export status and the recalls come straight from the RDW and are at most a day old.

We only show details about the vehicle. Details that say something about the owner, such as insurance or the date of the last change of owner, are left out on purpose.

With the links below the result you continue with the details of this vehicle: its fuel or electricity use for running costs, its list price and age for depreciation. The license plate isn't passed on.

Frequently asked questions

What is a recall?

When a manufacturer finds a defect that affects safety or the environment, it reports it to the RDW and recalls the vehicles for a repair. An open recall means the repair hasn't been reported as done yet. A dealer or the manufacturer can help you further.

What does the odometer verdict mean?

Repair shops and inspectors in the Netherlands report the mileage to the RDW. If the readings go up as expected, the verdict is consistent. If a reading was ever lower than an earlier one, the verdict is inconsistent. That can be a typo, but also a rolled-back odometer.

Why is the fuel use different from what I get on the road?

The figures come from type approval, measured on a fixed test drive. The newer WLTP test is closer to real driving than the older NEDC test. On the road, fuel use depends on your driving style, speed and the weather.

Do you store the license plate?

No. We only use the license plate to look up the vehicle. We don't store it, and it isn't in our statistics. There we only count the make.
