Please note: The addresses come from the Dutch Basic Registration of Addresses and Buildings (BAG) of the Kadaster and are updated every month. An address that is new or just changed may still be missing. A house letter or addition sometimes has a different postcode.
How it works
How far apart are two places in the Netherlands? Type two places, addresses or Dutch postcodes, or start from your own location, and see the distance in a straight line. The route link opens the journey by road in Google Maps.
We take the center of each postcode, or for a place the middle of all its postcodes, and work out the shortest distance over the Earth's surface. Places and postcodes come from the Dutch register of addresses and buildings (BAG) of the Kadaster and the postcode data of Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
By road it is almost always further: usually a quarter to a third, and more when there is water or a nature reserve in between.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the distance shorter than in my GPS?
This is the distance in a straight line, as the crow flies. Roads never run quite straight, so by road it is further. The Route by road link shows the journey.
Where do you measure from for a place?
From the middle of all the postcodes of that place. In a big city your own address can be a few miles from that point; type your postcode or address instead.
Do you store my location?
No. Your browser only shares your location when you give permission. We round it to about 100 meters and use it only for this one calculation.
