How the calculation works
When do you get the Dutch state pension (AOW)? Enter your date of birth to see your AOW age and the day your AOW starts.
The AOW age depends on the year in which you reach it. Up to and including 2027 it is 67, from 2028 to 2031 it is 67 and 3 months. Each year the Dutch government fixes the AOW age five years ahead, based on the life expectancy forecast by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
If you were born on or after 1 October 1964, you reach the AOW age after 2031, and it is not fixed yet. It stays the same or rises by 3 months each year, but never goes down. So we show the earliest date, at 67 and 3 months.
Formula
AOW date = date of birth + AOW age. The AOW age is the one of the calendar year in which you reach it.
Assumptions
- AOW ages under the Dutch General Old Age Pensions Act and the announcements up to and including 2031, as of 9 October 2026.
- After 2031 we use 67 and 3 months: the earliest possible age.
- If the day does not exist in that month, such as 30 February, we take the last day of the month.
- How much AOW you get depends on the years you lived or worked in the Netherlands; that is not worked out here.

When will the AOW age for 2032 be fixed?
The Dutch government fixes it by 1 January 2027 at the latest, five years ahead. We update this calculator after that.
Does my workplace pension start on the same date?
Not automatically. A workplace pension can start earlier or later; your pension scheme says when. On mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl you see your pension and AOW together.
